Off to a roaring start

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

Looks like I tried to optimize before I learned to walk. I started fiddling about with sub domains and permalinks a bit too soon resulting in broken links in various places.

On the upside, I’ve added a nice new category called ‘un-development’ for documenting any future mishaps, I’m sure there will be some.

Mainly writing this post to see if it posts correctly and the links are OK.

A brief background

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

From today on, I will be documenting the ongoing developments of ‘eWrite Lite’, a low cost and very easy to use content management system for website owners that I am responsible for developing.

There are already plenty of content management systems out there, Drupal, Mambo and Joomla to name a few. These are fantastic systems with plenty of options and add-ons. With eWrite Lite my aim is to provide a very easy to use piece of software to allow users to keep their site up to date quickly and easily at a low cost.

For now, I’m finding my feet. I haven’t run a blog before so this in itself is an interesting step for me. At first my blog posts will probably involve the development of the application itself but I plan to include anything of relevance to this project and I hope it’ll be interesting and useful to readers, I’ll be aiming high.

Thanks to Conor O’Neill and Calvin Jones for their motivating blog posts and all the people who voted on the Twitter poll provided by Polldaddy.

The Google Page Rank for the main site http://www.ewritecork.com has been updated from 0 to 3 today, so I’m off to a good start. Wish me luck!

Mini funding for the essentials

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

In the last few days I’ve begun working on a couple of small to medium PHP related projects, each requiring a few days of work. I will use the money from these to get a few essentials up and running, namely business cards.

I’m going to try out http://thelogocompany.net/ to get a logo, stationary and business cards designed. I’ve already met some people and regrettably I didn’t have business cards to give to them so they might contact me or refer other people to me. Who knows what opportunity’s I might have missed already.

I found out about this company from someone at Open Coffee early on in Luigi Malones in Cork. It’s taken me this long to act on it. I remember someone there had cards designed by this company and they looked damn good.

I’ll contact them today and get the ball rolling. Hopefully they’ll be able to design some cool stuff. I’ll post the results here.

I’m also interested in becoming a member of groups such as BNI, Cork Chambers of Commerce, Irish Internet Association. I’ll look into their costs but the business cards come first.
