draft logos from thelogocompany

I received 5 concepts back from thelogocompany today.  Theres something I like in each one. You’ll probably guess that I mentioned that I like the Thunderbird logo in the forms when I was filling them out.

For now, I’m tinkering around with ideas before I get back to them with enough information to move on. So far, I’m impressed. What do you think ?

    1. Too old and hackneyed. Will age too quickly. A mouse and an email and a CRT? No thanks.

    3. and 4. the e is far too like the Internet Explorer e.

    2. Too blue, font not great.

    2. and 5. The bird is too hard to reproduce, resize

    5. I like the font and the colouring. Not the bird. It’s too firefoxy looking.

    5 without the bird? :)

    (yes I’m picky)

    Simple logos are better.

Hmmm. Not crazy about them. And from what I know about ewrite they don’t say anything to me about the service. Some of them are too derivative I think and the others are a bit generic.

This is just a quick sketch off the top of my head but it might spark something - I tried to capture a little of what I understand ewrite to be.

  4. frankp Says:

Another very quick sketch to illustrate another concept of having a medal with a speech symbol, or you could also substitute an email symbol in either of my ideas.

  5. frankp Says:

Ah. I should have done more research before firing off sketches. I totally misremembered what ewrite was, you must have been scratching your head when you saw my ideas.

I had latched onto ewrite forms as the main thrust of ewrite, where it actually isn’t, so apologies about that!

  6. Aidan Finn Says:

2 and 5 look like they’ve ripped off the thunderbird logo. http://url.ie/d72

TBH they all look like clipart-logos. I’d try a different designer if that’s the best they can come up with.

  7. Iarfhlaith Kelly Says:

Whenever I design a logo or a graphic and need to give more then one option for the client, I always have a favourite. The one I really want the client to choose. The rest are simply there to make up the numbers.

In this case, I think it’s a similar situation. They’ve given you the illusion of choice. I think the only real contender is number 5. And like Damien mentioned, it’d be no harm to drop the bird (or use it as a secondary icon).

  8. Gordon Murray Says:

@frankp. Thanks for those logos. I like the first one with the speech bubble. Since eWrite helps site owners publish web pages and newsletters it isn’t a bad idea at all. Perhaps a speech bubble backwards to represent the letter ‘e’. I might revisit this idea in the future with an idea I have for ‘eWrite Community’.

@Aidan. As part of the forms I filled out they asked me if I liked any logos out there. I pointed to the Thunderbird one thinking they just wanted to see what I like.

@Iarfhlaith. I like the writing in 5 also, as do a few people. Its close enough to our existing logo which is simply the word ‘eWrite’ in gray.

I like the pen in draft 2. I’d like to do something more with this one too in the future. I’m considering sticking with our existing eWrite logo. I’ll sleep on it and see how I feel in the morning to progress this on to business cards, stationary etc.

Thank you everyone for the comments. Hopefully it’ll be of use to someone out there that might consider getting designs from thelogocompany.net

  9. frankp Says:

No bother Gordon, sorry for the mix up… but I definitely think that the logo should in someway reflect the business and I wouldn’t be happy that any of the above do that… nor would I be crazy about choice of fonts - finding the right font is key, and can take time, I don’t think any of the above have really nailed it.

Great to see the blog up and running - subscribed today :)
